Tecovas cowboy boots are some of the most popular boots on the market today. And their marketing team says that Tecovas boots are comfortable, durable, and made from the highest quality materials. But are Tecovas cowboy boots really as good as they claim?
Tecovas sent me a pair of boots called “The Docs,” to review. I’ve had them for about eight months, and they are impressive. These Tecovas cowboy boots are good-looking, comfortable, fit well, and made of high-quality leather. They live up to the hype and then some.
If you’re considering a new pair of cowboy boots, you may be wondering if Tecovas boots are worth the money. From style to comfort to durability, there are plenty of reasons to love Tecovas boots.
In this review, I discuss the following:

Comfort Meets Style: A Review of Tecovas Cowboy Boots
When it comes to cowboy boots, comfort is key. No one wants to be stuck with a pair of boots that causes arch pain or gives them blisters. But comfort doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style.
Tecovas makes some of the most comfortable cowboy boots on the market that also happen to be stylish and well-made.
- Tecovas boots are extremely comfortable, thanks to their soft leather and cushioned insoles that feature an EVA strip and glove leather lining. (EVA is a stretchy material that’s “rubber-like” in softness and flexibility.)
- They’re also very stylish – you’ll be sure to turn heads when you wear a pair of Tecovas cowboy boots.
- They’re well-made and built to last, so you’ll get your money’s worth out of a pair of Tecovas boots.
Are Tecovas Boots Worth the Money?
Tecovas cowboy boots are some of the highest quality western boots on the market. They’re able to offer their boots at an affordable price because of their unique business model, which cuts out the middleman and sells directly to consumers.
In addition, they source their leather from the same tanneries as major brands, but they sell their boots for a much cheaper price. Tecovas is also committed to Ethical Sourcing Standards, which means that their leather is sourced from farms that adhere to animal welfare standards.
And not only are they affordable and ethically sourced, but Tecovas boots are also incredibly well-made. They’re handcrafted by experienced artisans using traditional methods that have been passed down for generations, including Goodyear welt construction, hand-hammered lemonwood pegs, hand-laid decorative cording, and hand-stitched quarters.
The result is a boot that’s built to last a lifetime. Tecovas cowboy boots are the perfect combination of quality, affordability, and ethics, and that’s why they’re some of the best boots on the market. So, are Tecovas boots worth the price?
Overall, Tecovas boots are an excellent value when compared to similar boots. They are some of the most comfortable and stylish boots on the market, and the craftsmanship is second to none. Tecovas offers a variety of different styles of boots, so you can find the perfect pair for any occasion.
I have had my Docs for a while now. Their full-grain bovine leather construction and double stitching welt ensure a long-lasting and hard-working boot. And even as the boot ages, the leather softens, making it softer and even more comfortable.
The best part is you can have your Tecovas boots resoled any number of times you want. So you can have a perfectly broken-in pair of gorgeous Tecovas boots with a new sole. I firmly believe that for about $300, Tecovas The Doc is a steal.
Why are Tecovas Boots so Special?
I love the Tecovas philosophy and admire Mr. Hedrick greatly. I respect that he loves cowboy boots as much as I do. This is why the brand is able to give exactly what users look for in their boots.
Here are some features that make Tecovas special:
- High-quality leather
- Goodyear welt construction
- Hand-hammered lemonwood pegs
- Hand-laid decorative cording
- Hand-stitched quarters.
- Comfortable EVA insoles
- Shaft liner
- Affordable price
- Customer service
- No questions asked return policy
Despite coming on the scene much later compared to other popular cowboy boot brands like Lucchese, Tecovas boots follow the traditional steps of hand manufacturing each pair.
It isn’t surprising to note that Tecovas boots are made in Leon, Mexico – just like many of the classic cowboy boot brands are. In fact, talented Mexican artisans use almost 200 steps to make a single pair of Tecovas boots.
Each pair of Tecovas boots is hand-crafted by world-class bootmakers using top-quality leather. Their subtle western design is hand-laid prior to stitching the shaft and vamp.
Here are some of the steps that are involved in making a pair of Tecovas boots:
- Signature Tecovas molds are built true to US-sizes
- Just like traditional cowboy boots, the midsole is hand-hammered with lemonwood pegs.
- The stacked leather heels are hand-shaped before securing to the fully-built boot.
- Each pair undergoes painstaking inspections before hitting the shelves.
Tecovas promises quality, fit, comfort, and style. The Company stands by everything it makes. You get a free exchange and returns if you are dissatisfied with your purchase.
Tecovas cowboy boots are good to wear riding.
Tecovas boots are tough and comfortable, perfect for a day of riding. They’re made with full-grain leather that’s soft and supple yet durable enough to withstand the rigors of horseback riding.
The boots are also lined with breathable material, so your feet will stay dry and comfortable all day long. My Tecovas “Docs” have a sturdy heel and smooth sole that fits a stirrup perfectly.
So whether you’re riding in the arena or out on the trail, Tecovas boots will help you get the job done in comfort and style. However, I’m not currently wearing them as my everyday western horse riding boots.
I have a rotation of cowboy boots. I typically wear the newer ones to town and with nice clothes for a while before transitioning them to riding boots. Once they show some age, I use them for riding and buy a new pair of cowboy boots for going out.
Note: Not every style of Tecovas boots is designed for riding.
Are Tecovas Cowboy Boots comfortable?
Yes, Tecovas cowboy boots are comfortable. I recently wore my Tecovas boots to a family function and was on my feet for over five hours; afterward, kicking the Docs off at the end of the day was a breeze, and my feet felt better than if I’d worn tennis shoes.
As I mentioned earlier, I have slightly wide feet up front and prefer boots that allow greater room in the toe region. With the Doc, I could comfortably wiggle my toes and knew instantly that I can wear these for hours without getting that pinched or cramped feeling. (If you have normal feet or narrow feet, size down slightly; otherwise, they might be too wide up front. If needed, you can add in a 3/4th arch support to enhance their comfort).
I love the “Docs” because they’re so comfortable. At first, I thought these boots were just stylish and functional, but now, after wearing them for months, there is no doubt in my mind about how amazingly comfortable this boot is.
My Experience of Unboxing the Tecovas Doc
As I mentioned earlier, I have worn many boots over the years. But I must say that Tecovas Doc has made me a loyalist of the brand. I love the Doc’s broad-toe design, which makes it very comfortable for people with wide feet.
I recommend this boot to keep you comfortable if you work on your feet all day. The Doc’s stylish design also makes it great for a night out in town. The dressy boot features a double-stitched welt and is made with the finest bovine leather. You also get Tecovas The Doc in tan bison or suede.
I was impressed with the packaging when I received my first pair of Tecovas cowboy boots. The sturdy box boasts the Tecovas logo – and it held the boots and a care guide. They also sent a koozie with the boots.
I was amazed at how comfortable the boots felt right from the start. I am not a fan of pull-on boots because most of them require struggling to pull over the legs.
The Doc slid easily over my calves because of their spacious design. (That was actually one of my main concerns – whether the boots are easy to take on and take off. I needn’t have worried, as these boots slide on/off like butter.) The boot’s shaft was also flexible and lined inside, so it doesn’t give that abrasive and painful feeling you get with some western boots.
Furthermore, many cowboy boot brands need a long breaking-in period, but the Doc felt as if it was customized for me.
Are Tecovas Boots Right For You?
I believe anyone who tries on a pair of Tecovas cowboy boots is sure to fall in love with them. Not only are they good-looking, but they are also super comfortable. They are also hand-made with the highest-quality materials, so you can rest assured that they will last for years to come.
If you need a sturdy pair of boots to work at the barn or for horseriding, go for any of the boots in the Tecovas Ranchwear collection – you won’t be disappointed. However, if your workplace requires composite or safety toe boots that meet ASTM standards, then you’re in for disappointment.
Tecovas boots are classic cowboy boots designed to fit into the stirrups and don’t have steel or composite toes. If you have broad feet like me in the toe region, the Tecovas “The Doc” won’t disappoint.
They are the boots to go for if you have to walk or stand for long periods. If you are looking for a stylish pair of square-toe cowboy boots to wear with jeans for an evening out or to the rodeo, you will surely earn many compliments for Tecovas.
Also, Tecovas boots are available in a wide range of colors and in different materials like lizard skin, ostrich, and suede – so you have plenty of aesthetic choices as well. Tecovas is now recognized worldwide as one of the leading brands in western/cowboy apparel, and you simply cannot go wrong with it.
How stylish are Tecovas boots?
The high-quality Tecovas Docs are sure to grab attention. Their leather looks tough and long-lasting, and the finish is exquisite. The contrast stitching adds classic elegance to them. I even purchased some matching Tecovas accessories with The Doc, such as The Bison Belt and their snap shirt.
It looks super cool, and together, The Doc and the belt help me channel my inner cowboy perfectly! Being made of full-grain leather, the boots age well and, with proper care, will continue looking great for years to come. Tecovas also makes pearl snap shirts that are high quality and comfortable.
How do Tecovas Docs perform at work?
If you are not used to wearing cowboy boots at work, you might find that walking in Tecovas is a lot different than walking in regular work boots. For one: there is a lot more ‘rocking’ when you place the foot because the heel hits the floor first, and the toe follows later.
Also, if you have to do a lot of bending at work, the Docs are equipped with a 1 ½-inch heel. So, while they may make you taller, they also require you to bend deeper at work. Furthermore, the 1 ½” heel is ideal for stacking jeans.
Personally, I am used to wearing cowboy boots. So, I had no issues with them. And they are great in the saddle as the heel sits comfortably in the stirrups.
However, I haven’t tried out many of the Tecovas work boots, so I suggest you check out Bob Villa’s article: I Tried the Tecovas Work Boots: Are They Worth It? This article goes in-depth and provides helpful information.

Tecovas Boots – Who Founded the Brand? What Sets It Apart?
Tecovas was founded by Texas native Paul Hedrick. One day in 2014, at a meeting, Mr. Hedrick wore $600 cowboy boots in a “sea of loafers” to feel closer to his Texan roots. When he looked down at his boots, he suddenly felt that he wanted to “shake up” the $3 billion Western boot industry. And thus was born the concept of Tecovas Boots.
In the following years, Hedrick relocated to Texas, founded Tecovas, started different product lines, and even opened several retail outlets in various parts of Texas and Colorado. He even got mentored and picked up some top names as his board members – entrepreneur Brian Spaly of Bonobos, Andy Hunt, the co-founder of Warby Parker, and Elliot J Hill of Nike being some of them.
Says Hedrick: “Tecovas was founded out of my love for cowboy boots. I love what everyone loves when it comes to boots: timeless craftsmanship, long-lasting materials, and traditional styling. I want everyone to get that special feeling you get when you wear a great pair of boots. That ultimate feeling of comfort and confidence is what Tecovas is all about!”

Tecovas cowboy boots are made in Leon, Mexico, a city with a rich tradition of making high-quality, hand-crafted leather cowboy boots.
Are Tecovas cowboy boots true to size?
Yes, Tecovas cowboy boots run true to size. I ordered my Tecovas boots, in the same size I wear in tennis shoes, and they fit perfectly.
Do Tecovas fit the same as Ariat?
No, Tecovas and Ariats don’t fit the same. I frequently wear both brands of boots and find each runs true to size. However, Tecovas boots are a bit snugger across the top of your foot than Ariats. So, if you’re a person with a wide foot, order Tecovas in a double E.
